Perched on its limestone rock, surrounded by lavender fields, olive groves and dry-stone walls, the village offers a light and atmosphere few places in France can match. The panoramas over the Luberon from the plateau are breathtaking.
As a wedding photographer in the Luberon, I photograph regularly in the Gordes area, in plateau estates, surrounding bastides and sometimes in the village lanes themselves. The light of Gordes is among my favourite in all of Provence.

Light in Gordes through the seasons
June to July: lavender fields surround the village, the light is intense and the plateau sunset is spectacular. August to September: the lavender is harvested, the landscapes more mineral, the light more raking. October: autumn dresses the garrigue in gold and russet. Spring: almond trees blossom and the light is soft, an ideal season for outdoor weddings.
