A Fine Art reportage in Château de la Gaude

Château de la Gaude holds a unique position among wedding venues in the Aix region. Just a few kilometres from the centre of Aix-en-Provence, this estate offers what few venues can combine: proximity to the city and the depth of a large Provençal park, with the unmistakable silhouette of Montagne Sainte-Victoire as a backdrop.

I have had the pleasure of photographing several weddings at Château de la Gaude. Each reportage is shaped by this exceptional view, by the end-of-day light that illuminates the façade and park pathways, and by a Provençal architecture that lends itself beautifully to Fine Art photography.

The setting at Château de la Gaude

Château de la Gaude is an estate of character, rooted in generous Provençal nature. Its parkland, with century-old oaks, umbrella pines and shaded pathways, offers a wealth of natural settings for couple portraits and group photographs. The terraces with views of Montagne Sainte-Victoire are a signature backdrop that few venues can claim.

The château façade combines cut stone and classical Provençal architecture. The interiors, carefully renovated, blend contemporary comfort with authenticity, bright spaces for getting ready, elegant salons for the ceremony or dinner.

My approach at Château de la Gaude

The richness of Château de la Gaude lies in the diversity of its settings within a single space. My strategy is to use all of them through the day, following the light. Getting ready in the park-facing rooms with morning light. The ceremony outdoors with Sainte-Victoire as backdrop. Cocktail hour along the park pathways. And at 5 to 6 pm, when Provençal light turns golden and raking, couple portraits on the terraces or beneath the ancient trees.

My Fine Art approach, natural portraits, natural light, considered compositions, pairs perfectly with the aesthetic of the place: elegant, authentic, rooted in Provençal terroir.

The wedding day at Château de la Gaude

Getting ready in bright rooms bathed in soft morning light, where I capture the details, the dress, the jewellery and the rising emotion. Ceremony in the park or on the terrace, facing Sainte-Victoire, under the still-high early-afternoon light. Cocktail hour beneath the century-old trees, in the cool shade that is so precious during a Provençal summer. Dinner in the vaulted hall or outdoors under the lights. And, at sunset, the couple portraits when the golden light wraps the façade and the pathways.

Every wedding at Château de la Gaude follows its own rhythm, but the structure stays the same: follow the light, anticipate the key moments, remain discreet so the emotion can express itself freely.

Sainte-Victoire, the signature of Château de la Gaude

Few estates in the Aix region offer such an open view of Montagne Sainte-Victoire. This is what sets Château de la Gaude apart from every other venue: an iconic backdrop, painted by Cézanne, that gives your portraits an immediately Provençal, timeless dimension.

I work this view at different moments of the day: in clear light during the ceremony, in golden backlight at sunset, sometimes in silhouette at blue hour. The mountain becomes a character in the reportage, a visual anchor that roots your wedding in the landscape of the Pays d'Aix.

The best moments for photographs at Château de la Gaude

Château de la Gaude reveals its most beautiful light in late afternoon, when the sun grazes the façade and makes the stone glow. This is the ideal moment for couple portraits on the terraces or beneath the oaks. The morning offers softer light, perfect for getting ready and the details. On summer evenings, blue hour, just after sunset, allows more intimate images with the first lights of the party.
